Jess Hollis is a documentary
photographer based in the
South West of England.

I grew up surrounded by making. My Dad worked with wood, my Grandma illustrated, and I spent a chunk of my teens in a pottery studio. Patience, care and attention to detail were part of everyday life and those lessons still guide how I work today. I take time, I look closely and I try to understand what’s in front of me before lifting the camera.
Drawn to real people and real narratives - the ones that appear when you slow down, listen and stay a little longer. My work sits somewhere between quiet observation and rolling up my sleeves to get my hands dirty. Recent projects have allowed me to explore ideas, personal histories we carry with us and those memories, myths and ways of believing that frame our ideas on what it means to be human. In the future, I aim to focus my photography on humanitarian and environmental storytelling, collaborating with charities and organisations around the globe.
Alongside documentary photography, I have a parallel world of botanical photography. This is my way of getting lost in nature, which brings me joy. In 2025, some of these images found their way onto gallery walls in Lyme Regis and London. My photograph Cosmos Bipinnatus ‘Purity’ also received an Honourable Mention in the 2024 Monochrome Awards.
Currently studying Documentary & Editorial Photography at Falmouth University, I am continuing to learn just how many stories thrive in the everyday, and often in the places we least expect.
If you have a story to share or a project in mind, I'd love to hear from you.
